Choosing a Rental Car Based on Road Conditions

It has become popular with vacationers to rent a vehicle for their trip verses utilizing their own car or truck.  This option reduces the wear and tear on their own vehicle and allows the traveler to select specific details about the vehicle based on how it will be used.  Whether you are planning a long highway trip across country, or spending most of your time off-road, they type of vehicle you will want to rent will certainly be different.  So, what types of rental vehicles might you consider based on expected road conditions?

Highway Travel

Ok, so let’s say you were planning a trip across the states, traveling primarily on the countries wonderful interstates.  You know you will be spending a lot of time in the vehicle, cruising down the road, and might even need some entertainment to make the trip more enjoyable.  If you had ultimate resources you might select a Bentley Mulsanne or Mercedes S Class, or an Audi A8 to give you the ultimate comfort and class while traveling.  But, since most of us don’t have that kind of cash, we might need something a bit more practical; say, an Acura RLX.  The RLX provides an excellent smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride.  They also come with some of the most advanced entertainment systems.  That would certainly come in handy if the kids are along for the ride.  The 31 miles per gallon on the highway and 15 cubic feet of cargo capacity would make the trip much more appealing.

Desert Off-Road Adventuring

Maybe you are thinking of spending a lot of time off the beaten path; say, the Canyonlands, near Moab, UT, or other mid-western National Park area that provides plenty of desert, rocky roads to play on.  The highway vehicle is just not going to cut it here.  Now we are talking about Jeeps. Still the most popular vehicle to rent for desert off-road riding is Jeep’s Wrangler Sport 4×4.  With its 3.6-Liter V6 24-value engine, 6-speed manual transmission and 16-inch x 7-inch styled steel wheels, you and your family can squeeze into the smallest of spaces and fly across the softest of sands.  This jeep provides excellent clearance to get you over rocks and through the obstacles found in most of the desert touring areas.  Not only will you have a blast in the Wrangler Sport, but you will look good doing it.

So, whatever type of driving you plan to do, rent a vehicle and save the ware and tear on your own vehicle.  You can drive anywhere in style and comfort with the right vehicle.  Where do you plan to go next?
