Marriott and Ikea – a winning team for Moxy Hotels

Marriott International is planning to open 150 affordable priced hotels in 10 countries all over Europe. This new branch, called Moxy Hotels, will be its first in the budget-3-star hospitality division in Europe. The first Moxy Hotel was opened in Milan, Italy in 2014.

Marriott is targeting the millennial travellers whose numbers increase fast. The new branch on the tree of Marriott’s combines current design, easy going service and, very important, affordable prices. Marriott works with Inter Hospitality, which is part of the Ikea Group. This company is the initial developer and will own the first buildings of Moxy. Nordic Hospitality, another firm, will be the first franchise holder of Moxy Hotels.

Every aspect of the hotel was thoughtfully researched and crafted to reflect and deliver on the changing lifestyles and expectations of this fast-growing customer segment.”  Arne Sorenson shares his belief that Marriott International can be an important leader in redefining the traditional idea of an economy hotel in Europe. He says Marriott is delighted to work together with Inter Hospitality as an owner and Nordic as a franchisee.

Marriott plans to have locations in The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark over the next ten years. It says it took almost two years to develop the Moxy concept and working together with Nordic Hospitality, it has done extensive consumer research across Europe which included the construction of mock rooms for focus groups.

The Moxy stylish budget hotels will have 150 to 300 rooms and boast leisurely public spaces where Moxy’s guests can relax and socialise. The continental breakfasts are healthy and the evening bar offers wine by the glass and local beers. Each hotel will have 2 ‘plug and meet’ meeting rooms with modern ergonomic chairs, large writing walls, and a large tv for presentations. In the lobby you can find top notch computers and a 24/7 market where you can get drinks and food/snacks. There is free wifi for the guests and if they wish they can check in with a mobile device.
