Getting a graduate job is not anywhere near as easy as one would think it is. Getting a job is generally pretty hard anyway, the search for a job very much depends on the way that the job market is looking at that point and on the qualifications that you need too, whether you have a diploma of higher education or just a normal degree. Use Recruitment Firms:

Recruitment firms are very much built for this kind of thing. They help people around the country to find jobs that are relevant to their skillset. Many companies will not advertise any upcoming roles that they have, they will however often use a recruitment firm to advertise their roles. This is why it can be very difficult to see some of the more desirable jobs. Recruitment firms will also help you with your CV, they will help you to work out the formatting, what is relevant and what is not, they will also help you out with anything else that you’re struggling with when it comes to applying for jobs, maybe help to hone your interview technique or help you with your presentation skills.

Social Media is Your Friend:

While it can seem like something of an alien concept to be told that you need to subscribe to a number of social media sites in order to gain a job, it can be very useful. Companies like to paint a picture of the person that they are interviewing, they like to know what is going on with that person. Sites like LinkedIn are of course used for professional purposes, however, the use of sites like Facebook or Twitter allows companies to see what you’re like outside of work, however, be sure to remove any and all bad posts that you may have done, so be sure to vet your social media accounts before you apply for a job, otherwise you could be kissing goodbye to your dream job before you’ve even applied for it!

Research! Research! Research!:

Research of the company that you’re applying to, should be one of the most obvious parts of applying for a job, however, it’s also easily the most important. You always have to know what the company is doing, if only as a professional courtesy, you should know exactly what is going on! Companies are absolutely going to ask you about the company or are going to talk about it extensively and it is best to be prepared! The more you know about the company, the better you will look in your interview too, you’ll be aware of the work that the company does and you will also gain a little more of an understanding, not just of the industry that you’ll be working in, but also of the job role that you’re undertaking. It’s exactly the same as when you had to research your university before your dreaded university interview.

Focus on the Quality:

The quality of your CV and your application is incredibly important! Your CV needs to be tailored to the job that you’re applying for and to the industry that you’re looking to take on, the more that you can do this the better. Your application or cover letter needs to be poured over and needs to be carefully considered. Many people are seemingly unaware of the importance of spell check and of the look of their CV, your CV needs to have all of the relevant information, but also needs to be able to leave enough to have the employers wanting more. The quality of your personal statement in your CV is important too, you need to be able to sum yourself up in as few a words as possible. A good thing to do is to look at various personal statement examples online to gain some inspiration. Make sure that you take great care over all aspects of your application.
