Extend The Mileage on Your Tires

When you purchase new tires know what to expect, you will find that the manufacturer provides recommendations on the approximate number of miles you should get from your tires before they need to be replaced. Think of it as a “best-by date” for your tires.

To receive the maximum number of miles out of your tires, follow this quick guide for preventative maintenance:

Tire Pressure

Under or over-inflated tires can cause your tires to wear down faster or wear unevenly.  Check your tire pressure in the morning when your tires are cold and before they have been driven.  The correct pressure for your tires is noted in your cars manual.

Maintain Alignment

Maintaining proper alignment is another key to ensuring that your tires wear evenly.  A good rule of thumb is to get your alignment checked every time you get an oil change.

Regular Tire Rotations

Many manufacturers recommend rotating your tires every 5,000 to 6,000 miles.  A tire’s position dictates how much force it absorbs, by regularly rotating them you can ensure they all receive equal force over their life.

Balance your Tires

When tires are fitted to your wheels, there is a complex system of weights and counterweights balanced to ensure that your tires are mounted properly.  Over time this balance can be thrown off.  When your tires are off balance, it can create an unpleasant ride and also lead to uneven tread wear.

Uneven tread wear is one of the fastest ways to wear down your tires prematurely.
