TVS Sport vs TVS Star City Plus

TVS Motors is a renowned two-wheeler manufacturer and keep coming up with new launches to maintain its position in the market. It has grown strong over the years by producing different types of two-wheelers in the country. Among the different types, commuter bikes are the most in demand for its reliable performance and affordable offerings.

In the commuter bike segment, the TVS Sport and TVS Star City Plus are among the best two products in the company’s line-up. So, if you get stuck between these two products, go through the comparison below to get the better one.

Better features

The 2017 TVS Sport bike is the facelift version of the previous model and offers a standard design with some unique features which makes it a strong contender among the others. The new updates to the previous model include a redesigned headlamp with Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) and an analog display instrument cluster. It has received a 12-litre fuel tank, which makes it the largest fuel capacity bike in the 100cc segment. The suspension system includes a telescopic hydraulic fork up front and a five-way adjustable rear shock absorber.

On the other hand, TVS Star City Plus offers a basic design with headlamp, alloy wheels and sculpted fuel tank. It is a new variant of the Star City with a new dual-tone color scheme – Black and Red, Black and Blue, Red and Black. It also gets a new 3D chrome label. It features a Telescopic Oil Damped front suspension and a 5 Step Adjustable Hydraulic Shock Absorber at the rear.

The Powerplant

Mechanically, the TVS Sport is powered by a 99.7 cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled engine that produces a maximum power output of 7.8 bhp and a peak torque of 7.8 Nm at 5,000. The engine is paired to a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox. The bike offers a fuel-efficiency of  95 kmpl and claims to attain a top speed of 85 kmph.

The TVS Star City Plus, on the other hand, is powered by a 109.7cc engine that makes 8.3 bhp and a peak torque of 8.7 Nm. The engine is paired to a 4-speed gearbox and the bike has a claimed fuel efficiency of 86 kmpl. With higher power and torque values, it manages to reach a speed of 100 kmph from standstill position in just 8.1 seconds which makes it faster than the TVS Sport.

Which one is better?

The TVS Sport comes with a starting price of Rs. 40,604 (on road, Delhi), while the Star City Plus offers a higher price starting at Rs. 48,701 (on road, Delhi). Given the design, both are similar but with a larger engine, TVS Star City Plus offers better performance. However, the fuel-efficiency of the Tata Sport is on the higher side.
