5 Things To Do When Going Car Shopping

Barbara@opencomparison.org' By Barbara Ratliff Feb 28, 2017

The time comes around for all of us every occasionally.  When we’ve gone the last mile or just need a change, we get the urge to get a new vehicle.  Though it’s a long day, or several days’ process, it can go smoothly if you’re prepared.  When it’s time for that next purchase, keep these five things in mind while car shopping.

  1. Have your financial information in order

If financing the vehicle, the bank or finance company will require a credit application.  There’s certain financial information requested on the application like monthly or annual income, credit score, current employer and the amount of years employed.  The finance company may ask for additional documents like proof of income, copy of last check stub, copy of most recent tax return, bank statements, and proof of residence.  Speed up the process by having all the documents and information ready to go before shopping around.Image result for 5 Things To Do When Going Car Shopping

  1. Have an idea of your budget and desired price

Go to your bank to find out how much you qualify for ahead of time.  With this information, you’ll be able to decide your price range.  Decide what monthly payment you want and stick to it.  Only you know what payment is comfortable for you.

  1. Think about the type of car you want

Determine the size, style, model or brand vehicle you like.  What are you looking for the car to do for you, what features do you want, and how much modern technology do you want the care to have?  Think about the differences between imported cars and popular American brands.  Car types range from sports, sedans, trucks, SUVs, crossovers, and more.  Many companies have similar styles, but you know what stands out to you.  Martinsville ford has a wide variety of vehicles to choose from.

  1. Always test drive the vehicles

Get a feel for how you like the car and make sure it drives well.  Even take the dealership up on their offer to let you take it home for a day or two.  Many dealerships let customers keep the car overnight to give them a better idea of what it’ll be like to own it versus just a quick test drive.

  1. Take the vehicle to a licensed mechanic

The mechanic can inspect the car to make sure there are no major issues.  It doesn’t matter if the car is new or used.  Just be on the safe side and get it checked out by your own mechanic.

Car shopping can be a long process, but it doesn’t have to be inconvenient.  It’s easier when you have a dealership that you’ve built a relationship with, and are confident with the experience you’ll have.   Dealerships like Martinsville ford who have been in the business, and have staff that you trust, are the ones who make car shopping a peaceful experience.
